Cupping Therapy
Cupping Therapy involves the use of cups that are placed on the skin's surface using suction, similar to the hand movements of certain soft tissue therapy techniques. The suction created by the cup on the skin lifts it slightly from the muscles, enabling impurities and cellular waste products in the muscles and connective tissue to be drawn to the surface and expelled through the pores. This method can also help to desensitize an area, making it possible to apply a deeper remedial treatment.
Functional cupping is also available, which involves the application of cups to a specific area followed by gentle movements and stretches. Although cupping therapy may leave circular marks on the skin that resemble bruises, they do not cause any pain and can last for a period of 1 to 10 days.
